Dear Senior Citizens,

The Social Health Insurance Act No. 16 of 2023 was enacted on 19th October 2023 and regulations for operationalization of the Act were published on 8th March 2024.

The regulations provided for mandatory registration of all citizens with the Social Health Authority (SHA). In this regard, the Ministry of Health and Social Health Authority, via Public Notice issued on 15th September 2024 advised all citizens to register with the new Authority (SHA), before 1st October 2024.

Below are important guidelines for your attention and action.

i) You should register with SHA immediately before 1st October 2024 through the following process.

• Dial *147# or go to afyayangu.go.ke.

• Create an account by providing the details requested on how to proceed with the registration using your ID number, phone number and set up a PIN. Ensure you review the terms and conditions given for registration under SHA.

• Registration shall then commence. You will be required to provide details such as residential area to allow mapping with the nearest SHA service providers in your area and employment status.

• Upload the required documentation.

• Review your details and submit. You will receive a confirmation message on email or your mobile phone from AFYA YANGU upon successful application.

• To register the dependants, go to https://afyangu.go.ke and follow the registration process. Ensure that you have the required documents e.g. birth certificate or spouse ID number.

ii) Statutory deductions to NHIF will be stopped effective 1st October 2024 for pensioners who had subscribed for the deductions.

iii) The last date to use your NHIF statutory medical cover is 30th September 2024.

iv) We will communicate to you the amount payable by pensioners per month as SHA Statutory deductions, once we receive clear guidelines from the Authority on self-employed citizens contributions under a separate notice soon.
